Sending the Right Message: Legal Considerations for Media & Communications

Pro Bono Partnership of Ohio is pleased to offer this complimentary Strategic Legal Thinking Seminar, offered by Pfizer and Exponentum®.

In an increasingly crowded nonprofit sector, many organizations seek to differentiate themselves and reach existing and potential donors and clients through communications efforts, utilizing both traditional media and social media. In addition to crafting messages and choosing the medium, there are legal issues to be considered when planning communications activities. This seminar will review these legal questions.

Topics will include legal issues concerning the use of photographs and videos, including copyright, fair use, and privacy, especially relating to children. The seminar will also cover legal issues for nonprofit websites and social media, such as fundraising, lobbying and advocacy, employment, and creating a social media policy. The presentation will cover the legal issues in crisis communications such as negative posts and preserving data security.
