Nonprofit Highlight: Gorman Heritage Farm

PBPO Attorney Helps Organization Receive Additional $50,000 in Funding

Gorman Heritage Farm is a 122-acre working farm and outdoor education center, located in Evendale, Ohio with a mission to educate about agriculture, nutrition, sustainability and the environment. The Farm offers daily admission, group tours, summer camps, school field trips, cooking classes and other hands-on educational outdoor experiences.

With the help of PBPO attorney volunteer Matt Wagner (Frost Brown Todd), Gorman Heritage Farm took an in-depth look at its employees’ classifications, job responsibilities, wages and overall organizational structure to ensure it would be in compliance with the proposed Department of Labor overtime rule changes.  As a result of Matt’s detailed assessment, Gorman Heritage Farm restructured its staffing and implemented a number of other workplace efficiencies that benefit both the staff and visitors.

This experience has helped us to better manage our time and be more efficient.  Our relationship with PBPO and our attorney volunteers has allowed us to compensate our staff legally and at more competitive levels – as well as resulted in an extra $50,000 per year from a major funder.” – Tricia Watts, Gorman Heritage Farm, Executive Director

The Farm is open to all visitors, and has a number of events throughout the year. Coming up soon is their annual Sunflower Festival in October.  For more information on upcoming events at the Farm, please visit their website: gormanfarm.org
